International Journal of Mobile Communications (IJMC), Vol. 2, No. 4, 2004

Abstract: In this paper, we revise the Media Richness Theory (MRT) to be better applicable for mobile services and present a framework for explaining channel limitations and capabilities for mobile services. This framework can beused for evaluating existing services and developing enhanced mobile services with a supply side perspective to the richness of the media used for a service and the level of data or information aggregation. This framework is then illustrated with four different mobile services, demonstrating the usefulness of the framework, for instance, in considering the selection of different user interfaces.
