Abstract: This paper describes the research work involved in the development of an intelligent computer aided design (CAD) system for automatic modelling of deep drawing die. The proposed system consists of nine modules capable of modelling all major components and die assembly of deep drawing die. The system modules work in integration with knowledge-based system (KBS) modules developed earlier for design of die components. The system utilises output data files generated during the execution of KBS modules of die components for automatic modelling of deep drawing die. The system is developed using Visual Basic 6.0 and AutoLISP language on AutoCAD platform. A sample run of the system is shown to demonstrate its usefulness in sheet metal industries. The main feature of the system is its facility of interfacing die design with modelling and thus the system has low cost of implementation.
