Ionic conductivity studies on PEMA/PVC-NH4I polymer electrolytes

Abstract: Polymer electrolyte of poly(ethyl methacrylate) and polyvinyl chloride blend containing various weight percentages of ammonium iodide salt were prepared via solution casting technique employing tetrahydrofurane as the solvent. The conductivity values of the electrolytes were determined via impedance spectroscopy. The conductivity of the electrolytes is observed to increase with increasing salt concentration and the highest conductivity obtained is in the order of 10−6 S cm−1 at salt concentration of 40 wt %. In order to understand the conductivity behaviour, X-ray diffraction, temperature dependence of conductivity and dielectric studies were done. The results show that the conductivity is influenced by the fraction of amorphous region, activation energy and migration of charge carriers in the system.
