Abstract: In the present work, finite element analysis-based approach has been presented to estimate the temperature in the roll and the strip. Heat generation due to plastic deformation and friction is calculated employing flow formulation-based finite element analysis. The heat generated is used as input in the thermal analysis of roll and strip. Temperature distribution is carried out using finite element software ABAQUS 6.10. The heat partition between roll and strip is accomplished by matching the average temperature of roll and strip at the interface. The proposed method is validated with the experimental results available in literature and a good agreement is found. The proposed approach can be applied to hot as well as cold rolling and is computationally faster compared to existing finite element-based approaches.
