Hydraulic conductivity of residual lateritic soil permeated with organic chemicals

Abstract: In this study, three lateritic soil samples compacted at 2% wet of optimum moisture content with British Standard Light (BSL) effort were permeated with acetone and ethanol over a range of concentrations (0, 25, 50, 75, 100%), while benzene and heptane were used at full strength. Hydraulic conductivity of specimens permeated with diluted solutions of acetone and ethanol (<75%) recorded reductions of about half to one order of magnitude when compared with values established with water. Similarly, concentrated solutions of acetone and ethanol demonstrated increases up to two orders of magnitude, while benzene and heptane showed increases of about two to three orders of magnitude above the values measured with water.
