Abstract: In this paper, the tensile damage of glass fibre reinforced polymer has been investigated using the unit cell model. Tensile damage was induced for different failure load percentiles. Generalised plane strain theory has been used numerically to derive fundamental solution variables along with finite element model. In order to simulate the behaviour of unit cell model of composite for a small repeating area having a fibre surrounded by matrix a representative volume element (RVE) has been considered as the solution domain. The results from micromechanical model predictions and generalised plane strain theory have shown good agreements.
