Laboratory modelling of heat transfer system of radiology tube using multi-walled carbon nanofluid and evaluation of heat transfer coefficient

Abstract: Radiology devices can be considered as important tools in medical imaging and diagnosis and X-ray tube is the main part of the system to produce X-rays. One of the main problems with these equipments is that too much heat is generated at the anode as a result of clashing the high-energy electron beam on its surface. Lack of proper transfer of this heat, further destruction, reduces the efficiency and life time of the X-ray tube and increases the cost considerably. Considering the important role of oil around the X-ray tube as a transferor of generating heat, in this project, experimental model of X-ray tube heating system was built and the same amount of heat generated at the anode was produced and for the first time in the world. The oil around the tube was replaced by different weight percentages of MWC-nanofluids and heat transfer coefficients have been investigated in both steady and unsteady states. The obtained experimental results indicate that using this method can improve heat transfer significantly.
