Abstract: A mathematical model was developed for the robust design of a vehicle fuel filler door with a leaf spring. The model consists of two parts. The first part is the mathematical relationship between the performance indices and the design parameters. The second part is the formulation of a random optimisation problem. Robust designs of such fuel filler doors can be obtained by linking the model to an optimisation program. An example is included to demonstrate the usefulness and effectiveness of this model.
