Abstract: Integrating and automating workflow processes have been investigated to decrease the resource requirements and increase the efficiency of e-business processes. Researchers have analysed workflow patterns, but little has been done to make the patterns semantically and systematically deployable in applications. In our research, we propose an ontological description of workflow patterns and templates to support established workflow patterns, and we have developed a framework to accommodate these templates. The proposed system identifies the pattern type from a workflow diagram based on the pattern ontology, collects the necessary information for the process, and makes a connection to an appropriate application system. A prototype implementation to show the effectiveness of our system for automated business choreography is described.
