International Journal of Heavy Vehicle Systems (IJHVS), Vol. 3, No. 1/2/3/4, 1996

Abstract: Firstly, the article analyses the contact interactions exerted by the tyre on the roadway, as well as the influence of certain parameters (load, inflation pressure, internal temperature) on these interactions. The article then proceeds to compare wide base single and dual tyre assemblies. This section describes: the peculiarities of dual tyre assemblies on contact interactions; elements from a bibliographical study of the influence of the type of tyre compared with that of other factors on the rutting of roadways; the advantages of wide base single tyre assemblies. Using these elements as a base, the article raises the problem of the pertinence of certain regulations introduced in some countries, due to problems of damage to roadways, that led to wide base single assemblies being penalised.
