International Journal of Heavy Vehicle Systems (IJHVS), Vol. 2, No. 2, 1995

Abstract: In this article, the application of a hook load and safe load indicator and limiter for mobile cranes is presented. The microprocessor-based control system for the determination of current hook load is based on oil pressure and boom angle. Elementary calculations are given for the generation of load curves. Results are given and discussed for the application of the control system to a 100 kN capacity mobile crane. The system can easily be adapted to any crane, earth moving machinery and fire engines by using appropriate software.
