Anarchism, environmentalism, and anti-globalisation
by Giorel Curran
Interdisciplinary Environmental Review (IER), Vol. 6, No. 2, 2004

Abstract: While anarchism has never enjoyed the authority of the major ideologies, this paper contends that it has had considerable influence in shaping the modern political landscape. The paper explores anarchism's participation in the environmental and anti-globalisation movements, where its influence is most prominent. It first examines how anarchism was reconceptualised into green anarchism. It then traces green anarchism's participation in the anti-globalisation movement in the 1990s and beyond, where it coalesces with other anarchist groups. The paper highlights the paradox of an anarchist ''revival'' fuelled by the very technologies that underpin the globalised capitalism that many anarchists decry.
