Building sustainable communities in Russia: Nevo Ecoville case study
by Maria Tysiachniouk, Svetlana Pchelkina, Antonina Kuliasova
Interdisciplinary Environmental Review (IER), Vol. 1, No. 2, 1999

Abstract: The eco-settlement Nevo Ecoville in Reuskala can be regarded as an attempt by Russian people who found themselves in a world with rapidly changing ''rules of the game'' to create a structure (a small society), which would help them to live in harmony with nature and realize their ideals. This paper represents a qualitative study of the Nevo-Ecoville. We will focus on the history of the settlement, on its system of administration, its financing, farming activities, gender roles, ecological practices and plans for development.
