Abstract: Eliminating redundant readers is a significant way to improve the Quality of Service (QoS) of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) networks. This paper proposes a novel middleware-based approach M-PSO, which discriminates redundant readers based on the data in RFID middleware without the 'write-to-tag' operations. A redundant model is developed to evaluate the QoS, which is formulated as a multi-dimensional optimisation problem. The Particle Swarm Optimisation (PSO) is employed here to search the optimal parameters in the model. Simulation results reveal that the real-time feature and optimisation precision of the proposed approach outperform the compared algorithms including the RRE, LEO+RRE and MRRE.
