Abstract: In EDM process, orbital tool movement helps to decouple the size of tool electrode from the desired size of cavity. The orbital motion, with its adjustable radius, allows a range of hole sizes to be drilled with a single tool electrode. In present research work, a semi-empirical model has been developed for predicting material removal rate of Inconel 718 during electro discharge machining with orbital tool actuation by applying dimensional analysis approach. The model is based on orbital parameters viz. orbital radius and orbital speed, machining process parameters viz. current and pulse ON time and different properties of Inconel 718. The prediction from semi empirical model show good agreement with the experimental verifications.
