Abstract: The level of professional maturity of the quantity surveying practices in the competitive business environment might be an essential element that determines success. Resulting from globalisation, technological developments and increasing demand for accurate financial- and risk management in the construction and investment industries, the maturity of quantity surveying practices could increasingly determine their ability to remain in demand and competitive. The proposed five maturity pillars are supported by a comprehensive narrative study and might support the development of a quantity surveying practice as part of a mature and learned society within the construction industry. The five maturity pillars were found to be a complex interrelationship of different business management activities. This paper identifies and proposes the different maturity pillars and discusses the related activities. Professional maturity for the quantity surveying profession may perhaps be a very relevant topic and should receive international consideration.
