Abstract: The rapid development of modern information and communication technologies has opened new possibilities for establishing and delivering distance learning. In addition, new learning paradigms based on cognitive learning theories emphasise the quality of the learning process. In this paper, we will try to answer the question, ''How have modern learning environments changed the work of teachers and the learning process?'' and visualise the future. In order to answer the question, we summarise our own experiences from several network-based distance learning courses. The courses we have been working on include applications of mathematics, computer sciences, and foreign languages.
