Abstract: In this paper, we report on the obtention of nanoparticles of nickel and cobalt titanates MTiO3 (M = Ni and Co) with type-ilmenite rhombohedral structure prepared by the chemical method and heat-treated at 500°C for 3 h. These nanoparticles were characterised by X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, ultra violet-visible absorption spectroscopy and photoluminescence measurements. A TEM image reveals that the as-synthesised ultra-fine samples consist of florets of cauliflower and spherical-like morphology of crystalline particles from 15 to 30 nm, which is weakly, aggregated. The optical properties of the as-prepared sample were investigated. The results suggest that the size, morphology and optical properties are enhanced in both the metal titanates MTiO3 (M = Ni and Co) nanoparticles.
