Regression analysis for insulation failures in transformer windings

International Journal of Power and Energy Conversion (IJPEC), Vol. 4, No. 1, 2013

Abstract: The winding insulation system is the main component of power transformers. If there is any failure in winding insulation will have a crucial impact of the energy system operation. Insulation failure is the predominant part of faults and highest risk for all types of transformer failures. Most of the winding insulation failure is primly due to partial discharge. Partial discharge identification is an important diagnostic tool for the reliable operation of transformers. In this paper, regression analysis is proposed for locating the source of partial discharge. Experimental studies are performed on layer and interleaved winding to prove the feasibility of the method.
