Abstract: In most enterprises, utilisation of available computing power of personal computers (PC) is very low, and it is desirable to improve it without incurring side effects. Architecture of most existing IaaS frameworks is inadequate for said scenario involving PCs. These frameworks are mainly designed for server-class computing infrastructure of large data centres. They typically make assumptions about hypervisor type and related environment setup. Various aspects of virtual machine (VM) control are largely controlled by cloud front-end node. However, in the said scenario involving PCs, hypervisor is often a hosted type which runs as a regular operating system (OS) process. A novel architecture for infrastructure as a service (IaaS) cloud is proposed to addresses above said limitations. It makes use of real-time system-state information from cluster nodes and decentralises cluster node policy management, among other design decisions. We show that proposed architecture has better scalability, security, and availability.
