International Journal of Foresight and Innovation Policy (IJFIP), Vol. 1, No. 3/4, 2004

Abstract: Regarding the recent emergence of technology foresight (TFS) as the evolution or innovation of technology forecasting (TFC), this paper provides a preliminary analysis of expected obstacles to TFS from experiences of TFC. This paper reviews technical and marketable deficiencies of TFC for real uses and lessons learnt for TFS. This paper points out the weakness in the consciousness of market and customer satisfaction (CS) in the development of TFC. Further, regarding TFS as a new product (NP), this paper applies managerial techniques for NP development including marketing and quality management (QM) to the development of TFS. This preliminary analysis reveals expected obstacles to be overcome for TFS to be effectively utilised in technological strategy formation.
