Abstract: The present article will try to identify and analyse the methodology of building of long-term socio-economic strategies in Poland for the year 2020 based on system changes after 1989. The analysis is based on the interdisciplinary approach. Two documents are in existence that cover over 20 years: the document prepared by the Government Center for Strategic Studies (Rzadowe Centrum Studiow Strategicznych) Poland 2025: Long term Strategy of Sustainable Development as well as a document prepared by the Prognosis Committee Poland 2000 plus at the Polish Academy of Sciences (Polska Akademia Nauk), Strategy of the Development of Poland until 2020. Although there is a variety of economic, social and political systems, the issues of development planning apply to all types of economic systems of the modern world. In Poland, despite negative experiences of the central planning system, the step towards a market economy should not result in rejection of planning as a whole.
