Abstract: The ML 450 HYBRID is the first Mercedes-Benz full hybrid vehicle with the Advanced Hybrid System-Cars (AHS-C) two-mode hybrid transmission, promising significant fuel consumption and emission reductions. The transmission is central to the hybrid powertrain system with the main features of great efficiency both in inner city 'stop and go' traffic and on long-distance journeys at increasing engine loads and higher speed ranges. It enables the vehicle to be driven under purely electrical power, by the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) alone via direct gears or by a combination of both. The hybrid transmission AHS-C has two electric traction motors, three planetary gear sets and an internal electric motor to drive the oil pump.
