The powertrain domain in electric and hybrid vehicles

Abstract: The electrification of road transport is opening new opportunities and challenges to the automotive industry. The design and development of high performance, low weight-size and cost, reliable, safe and high energy efficient electric/hybrid powertrains are crucial for the successful introduction of the new generation of electric and hybrid vehicles in the market. An overview of the electric/hybrid powertrain subsystems including its control functions is presented in this paper. In addition, some considerations for the design-development-testing through the V-model of the powertrain electronic control units are also outlined, where the current application standards and regulatory laws are reviewed.
