Health satellite account: the first step
by Klaus-Dirk Henke; Dennis A. Ostwald
International Journal of Behavioural and Healthcare Research (IJBHR), Vol. 3, No. 2, 2012

Abstract: The usual assessment of the healthcare sector as a mere cost factor falls short. The Health Satellite Account created by TU Berlin, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and WifOR Institute for the first time allows a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the economic impact of the German healthcare industry on the basis of national accounts. The outcome of the calculation is that the German healthcare industry creates one tenth of Germany's economic performance and employs nearly 5.6 million workers. Thus it must not be seen only as cost driver but rather as an important factor for growth and employment in Germany.
