Abstract: Cobalt aluminate imparts blue colour and diverse demanded properties to glass composites. In this work, a new core-shell pigment based on kaolin as the core covered with a nano- and micron-sized surface layer of cobalt-magnesium aluminate comprising its shell was introduced to glass composites. The prepared pigments were analysed to prove the formation of the core-shell structure using XRF and EDAX analysis. The glass composites which are based on diopside and wollastonite prepared from raw materials were also analysed using XRD and TEM techniques. The addition of the prepared pigments on glass ceramics and its effect on the sequence of crystallisation was studied; also studying the effect of different pigments particle sizes was held out. The pigmented glass composites were treated at different temperatures to study their thermal properties, and their physico-mechanical properties. The tests approved that, the nano-pigmented glass composites (GN) show better physico-mechanical and thermal properties than micronised-pigmented glass composites (GM).
