International Journal of Healthcare Technology and Management (IJHTM), Vol. 1, No. 3/4, 1999

Abstract: The paper deals with an iterative three dimensional (3D) smoothing of MR images acquired by the fast 3D Flash sequence. The method explored, which is aimed at the improvement of 3D visualisation quality, uses the physical concept of anisotropic diffusion. Two 3D algorithms are developed and discussed. A novel iteration-stopping criterion is proposed and tested. An interactive segmentation procedure is designed and its software implementation is described. The results of computer experiments with the 3D smoothing, segmentation and visualisation using actual MR brain data are presented and discussed.
