Standardisation in medical informatics

Abstract: This paper discusses the various standards developed, and in the process of being developed, in the field of medical informatics. It includes information on the standards-making process with particular reference to this field. It also discusses a recent initiative in the UK National Health Service to ensure that formal standards are specified in procurements.
