Abstract: The repair of worn-out components requires the extraction of their actual geometry. To acquire the surface contour, a laser displacement sensor and a CNC motion system are typically used. One of the factors that affect the measuring accuracy is the sensor 's resolution. A high resolution sensor usually has a short measuring range. Therefore, a contour with a large peak-to-valley height cannot usually be measured using a short range sensor. In this research, a measurement system of tracking target surface was developed. The proposed measurement system has been used for repair of worn-out components using laser cladding. [Received 6 May 2011; Revised 2 September 2011; Accepted 5 September 2011]
