The future and the impact of telematics for health care

Abstract: This paper introduces the actual telematics requirements in health care and emphasises the importance of standardisation. It summarises the standardisation efforts in CEN/TC 251 and the relationships between those activities and ongoing R&D in Europe. The role of the European Health Telematics Observatory is explained and two typical examples of telematics implementations mentioned.
