Abstract: In this paper, the sliding kinematic characteristics of sphere is studied on dual rotated plates (DRP) lapping machine. By establishing equilibrium equations, the paper analyses the phenomenon of rolling and sliding of a sphere during processing, and analyses the rolling, sliding state of a ball in the motion process. In order to analyse kinematic characteristics of ball on DRP lapping machine easily, compendious introduction of virtual prototype technology and Matlab have been used to establish 2D simulation model based on the optimised equation of two lower plates' rotation. The model has verified the kinematics model and the structure design. Then influence factors of balls' motion are studied by the model. So the research of sphere sliding phenomenon has a larger critical value through the paper.
