Abstract: This article contains a report on a study carried out at the request of the French Ministry of the Environment, ADEME and CEA. The subject of the study was the long-term evolution of the environmental ''social demand'' of society, and the translation of this demand in terms of public R&D management. The objective is to present the methodology and to synthetically point to the main findings of the study. We conclude by proposing a possible follow-up process that would allow for real-time and continuous input into the French environmental R&D organisation.
