Abstract: Compared to the fusion welding processes that are routinely used for joining of aluminium alloy, friction stir welding process is an emerging solid state joining process in which the material that is being welded does not melt and recast. This process uses a non-consumable tool to generate friction heat in the abutting surfaces. The welding parameters such as tool rotational speed, welding speed, axial force and pin diameter play a major role in deciding the weld quality. In this investigation, an attempt has been made to develop parametric window and mathematical model to predict the micro hardness of friction stir welded aluminium alloy 6082-T651. Four-factor five-level central composite rotatable design matrix has been used to minimise the number of experiments. The adequacy of the developed model was checked by ANOVA technique.
