Abstract: This paper investigates the perceived benefits and obstacles of Knowledge Management (KM) implementation in two government institutions in Malaysia. Subsequently, a comparison of findings between the institutions is made. A self reporting questionnaire was developed and disseminated to the government officers at various managerial levels. The responses provided by 393 officers highlight a list of potential KM benefits and challenges by which recommendations are made for effective KM and thus e-government implementation. This study is undertaken to narrow the gap that the potential benefits and obstacles of KM implementation in the public sector is less commonly addressed in the literature.
