Abstract: This study adopted the complex analytical model and simulated annealing algorithm to analyse calibre rolling process and to find out the optimal combination of the important process parameters. Since the simulated annealing algorithm has the capacity of getting global optimum, which does not require the calculation of objective function and the gradient data of constraint function, and meanwhile, has no limits to the kind of design variables, the optimal design of the parameter combination is thus proceeded. By focusing square-to-oval of the calibre rolling, this study intends to obtain the optimal combination with the important process parameters such as calibre radius, reduction percentage of central height, the ratio of width to thickness, rolling speed, and roll diameter. The shape quality and consumed power needed for deformation after the process of such combination are indeed the best. In this study, we have combined numerical analysis and optimisation algorithm to obtain the optimal process parameters of calibre rolling process correctly and quickly, which will facilitate the analysis in the engineering of calibre rolling design.
