Abstract: It is broadly admitted that collaboration can facilitate and augment learning in many ways. Accordingly, collaborative learning models, tools and technologies should receive increasing attention. Aiming at further contributing to this directive, this paper elaborates a series of issues related to the current state, objectives and future trends of collaborative learning. Particular attention is given to the identification of requirements imposed by contemporary communities and mobile learning contexts, as well as to the consideration of approaches that could significantly contribute to their fulfillment.
