Abstract: Along with the fast development of sensor hardware, traditional scalar sensor nodes are now provided with both multimedia and mobility functions. By observing this emerging combination of these two functions into traditional wireless sensor networks (WSNs), we take the opportunity in this paper to highlight a subset of WSNs, which we name as 'mobile multimedia sensor networks' (MMSNs). Furthermore, we present a number of challenging issues that may appear in MMSNs in terms of enhancing diverse quality of services (QoS) and prolonging the network lifetime for both WSNs and multimedia communication research communities.
