Effect of parameters in resistance micro-welding of stainless steel cross wire using fractional factorial experimental design

Abstract: The present study investigates the effect and contribution of welding current, electrode force and weld time on the joint strength during the resistance spot welding of cross wires of 316 LVM stainless steel of 0.38 mm diameter. Taguchi's experimental design methodology was employed to identify the significant parameters and their interactions. The welding current was found to be most significant factor affecting the joint strength/breaking force. Signal to noise ratio was used to assess the variability. The optimal solution using the best parametric combination was established. [Received 1 October 2009; Revised 24 August 2010; Accepted 25 November 2010]
