Abstract: This paper presents empirical findings on smartphone usage based on a comparative analysis of an international data set of mobile user behaviour. Smartphone usage data is collected with a handset-based research application in five separate markets through panel studies arranged in 2005–2006, using identical user recruitment processes. The data set consists of an early-adopter-dominated smartphone user domain across the five selected countries, namely Finland, Germany, France, the UK and the USA. As most panelists are early-adopter, tech-savvy people, the paper compares high-level behavioural differences of these advanced users in each of the markets.
