Abstract: The revolution of distance education in the knowledge economy emphasises more on ICT usage as synchronous learning is conducted electronically. Adult students returning to school are confronted with a different learning environment which they have to adapt to immediately. 'e' based teaching and learning present new situations, initiatives and motivation which are inherently reflected on their academic performance. Thus, the objective of this research was to determine the correlation between the four constructs of andragogy, that is, cognitive engagement and academic performance. The four constructs are deep learning, surface learning, course value and student engagement. From 500 respondents, the return rate was 33.8%. Of the four constructs, the highest mean score was for student engagement at 44.8 while the aggregate mean for cognitive engagement is 37.5. Although there is a positive correlation between engagement and academic performance, the number of respondents (45.6%) with CGPA between 2.50 and 2.99 do not reflect high learning ability and achievement.
