Abstract: Healthcare delivery systems have become increasingly technology dependent. No medical intervention can takes place without recourse to application of technology or use of healthcare medical equipment and devices. Therefore, this paper attempts to ascertain the problems and causes related to the failure and poor upkeep of healthcare equipment in 12 major Sri Lankan public sector hospitals. This study concludes that non-existence of national healthcare technology management policy is the main factor responsible for poor management of healthcare equipment. It recommends major changes in restructuring the systems and accountabilities in public health system in developing countries.
