Abstract: The explosion in the capability and number of applications for Wireless Data Systems (WDSs) has allowed both personal and business consumers to become better connected to the world around them. Improved fleet connectivity may result in other potential benefits to the transportation infrastructure as well as to the industry's carriers and shippers. To analyse the current WDSs used in the transportation systems, a survey was designed and distributed to some large trucking companies. This research presents an analysis of the transportation marketplace to assess current applications of WDSs and develop a framework for potential future directions of WDS implementation.
