Autonomous demand-oriented streaming system architecture and fault-tolerant technology for service continuity

Abstract: In the dynamic and heterogeneous environment, the quality of user experiences (QoE) is considered to be a more appropriate parameter for judging the video on demand (VoD) service quality compared to quality of service (QoS) since users have different requirements on service quality according to their places, time and devices. To achieve QoE, service providers are expected to offer a new system architecture which can satisfy different levels of demands. In addition, for users the service continuity becomes one of the most serious effect factors. However, it is difficult for conventional systems to meet heterogeneous requirements from service providers and users simultaneously. This paper introduces an autonomous demand-oriented streaming system sustained by mobile agents for information service provision and utilisation. Under the proposed architecture, autonomous fault detection and recovery technologies are proposed to assure service continuity. The effectiveness of the proposed technology is proved by the simulation.
