Injection mould design: a brief appraisal of modern techniques
by R.K. Chohan
International Journal of Materials and Product Technology (IJMPT), Vol. 4, No. 1, 1989

Abstract: Mould design has in the past been largely an art. However, recently attempts have been made (and are in progress) to replace 'rules of thumb' by the application of sophisticated design and engineering concepts. Most of these techniques can be called computer-aided-engineering. In the past functional aspects dominated design whilst present techniques tend also to take at least some considerations such as processability (mould- ability), cooling and rheology. The present reports present a brief appraisal of some present techniques. A couple of expert systems are also briefly discussed. It is clear that a considerable amount of work still needs to be done especially in integrating multi-disciplinary aspects involved in mould design.
