Technical Note: Development of pseudo-curable adhesives for hem flange bonding

International Journal of Materials and Product Technology (IJMPT), Vol. 6, No. 1, 1991

Abstract: To improve the anticorrosion performance of hem flanges, the authors developed pseudo-curable adhesives consisting of one-part epoxy paste containing acrylic polymer particles. These adhesives can be pseudo-cured by induction heating after the flange has been hemmed and then the complete cure is carried out in the paint baking oven. The use of this pseudo-curing method makes it possible to improve the adhesive fill rate in the hem flange, facilitates removal of excess adhesive from the panel surface and enables body parts, to maintain their shape during the body assembly process without being temporarily spot-welded.
