Tribological properties of ion plated coatings

International Journal of Materials and Product Technology (IJMPT), Vol. 8, No. 2/3/4, 1993

Abstract: Tribological test show, that hard coatings (e.g. TiN) can protect structural and engineering parts, while self lubricating coatings protect also the counterfaces but show poor abrasive wear resistance (AlSn,MoS,). Metal carbide/carbon coatings (WC/C) combine moderately abrasive wear resistance with excellent counterpart protection.
