R&D on long ceramic-lined pipes produced by a centrifugal-thermit process

Abstract: Long ceramic-lined pipes(>3 m) have been produced by a thermit reaction induced under the effect of a centrifugal force(''Centrifugal-Thermit Process''). The significant feature for the production of long ceramic-lined pipes is mainly in its reaction propagation under centrifugal effect as well as the centrifugal force and reaction heat; the reaction first proceeds rapidly along the inner surface of the reactant and then in the radial direction, resulting in a homogeneous quality in the direction of pipe length. It is very important in improving the quality of the ceramic-lined pipes to find the proper conditions of the reactant and centrifugal force; the former mainly determines the produced ceramic layer quality and the latter the achievement of layer separation and the mechanical properties of the pipes. In the present R&D, the conditions of thermal insulation, centrifugal force, the additives to thermit powders, etc. are optimized in order to bring out the potential of the ceramic-lined pipes produced by the centrifugal-thermit process.
