Development of an impact-mitigating primer
by T. Gotoh, M. Ohno
International Journal of Materials and Product Technology (IJMPT), Vol. 7, No. 1, 1992

Abstract: This report describes the development of a universal primer for on-line coating of plastic parts and bodies. The primer has the advantage of good impact strength due to its laminated-glass structure, which also accounts for the characteristics of internal stress relaxation and ultra-elasticity of the primer. Because of a heat-adhesion mechanism, this primer adheres well to all plastics. Another advantage discussed in the paper is the ability of the primer to reduce damage on steel panels caused by chipping. It has already been used on various body components made of nylon, PBT resin, SMC resin, etc.
