Abstract: Composite sorption electrode materials consist of a carbon matrix and an inorganic sorbent. The contact of the matrix with the inorganic component creates a potential drop at the interface. This changes the sorption capacity of the inorganic component. The capacity decreases for cations and increases for anions. The carbon matrix has the properties of a gas electrode. Its potential depends on the gas content in the electrolyte, the gas atmosphere and the electrolyte acidity. Those factors influence the sorption capacity of the composite electrode. The electrolytic acidity change and gas atmosphere give a possibility of effectively controlling the sorption-desorption processes.
