Abstract: This paper gives calculation of solidus and liquidus curves in binary systems for the base metal versus impurities in a range near to the pure metal gadolinium. From these solidus and liquidus curves you determine the equilibrium distribution coefficients k0 = XS/XL for all known impurities in gadolinium. The equilibrium distribution coefficients depending on temperature allows us to construct the relationship between k0 and atomic number, which makes it possible to predict the distribution coefficient value of impurities for which the binary system was unknown. These calculated coefficients were confirmed by experimental melting of binary systems. The experimental value of distribution coefficient in the system gadolinium-dysprosium are in a good agreement with calculated values.
